You can renew your driver license in person, by mail, or on the internet. Because you are reading this, we know that you are online— which is why we are only going to tell you about renewals online (the best way anyway).
It is a pretty simple process. There are a few qualifications and they are as follows:
- You received a Renewal By Mail (RBM) Notice with a Renewal Identification Number (RIN)
- Have access to the Internet
- Not have a change of address or change of personal description
- Have a verified Social Security Number (SSN) on DMV’s record (since October 2000, DMV verifies SSNs with the Social Security Administration)
- Have a valid credit card (Visa, Master Card, American Express or Discover)
The DMV will send you your license in several weeks.

I never recieved a renewal letter for my drivers license. Please let me know how I can go about renewing my license since now it is expired.
Thank you for your help

Hi Ziggy, the DMV does not always send you license-renewal letters– things like having had your license suspended would require you to go in and visit in-person. I would definitely recommend visiting soon as there can be complications if you wait too long to renew.
I need 2 renew my license
My purse was stolen over the weekend, everything that I carry was in my purse license, social security card etc. you are closed when I am on my way to work and you are closed when I get off work, I work too far to get to the one in Redwood City where else can I go to get another license? Now I hear you are no longer open on saturdays, what can a person do!I can’t even afford to take off work and try to get things done in timely matter, it takes about an hour to stand in line when you only have an hour to and from work!
My license is about to expire and I have moved. How do I go about renew my license on line?
Hi! I recieved a lette from DMV last week that I have to renew my license in person but the earliest appointment I could schedule on line is on August 20th. My license will expire next Friday. I am a physician and I have a very busy schedule. I tried to talk to a person (at777-0133) but I was put on hold for an hour and wasn’t able to talk to anyone. Is there any other way I can get an appointment before August 7th? I appreciate any advise you can give me.
Thank you for your time
greetings, my lic. was lost and would like to get a new one. My exp. date is 04-14-13. I read how to get a new one with a renewal number but is there a way to get one sent to my address without having to visit the dmv? Hope you can help.
